I've Never Done a Post This BIG!

Get ready for a whole lot of everything.  I have not updated in a while, because just recently I changed the URL of the blog, got a new email address, yadayadayada.  And since that's all done, I now have a whoooole lot of stuff to upload from the end of the semester (some from earlier on that I never uploaded yet either).  So, enough talk, here's a whole buncha stuff:

Life Drawing: my final portfolio and a few extra creatures, costumes and poses.  I hope to focus more on structure this summer, as I always try to create very gestural poses.  And then once I finally have it (sometimes takes me a few tries), I often never really finish it.  Gotta change that!  Anyway, here's a whole bunch of drawings.  The life drawings are somewhat in order of short to long poses.

The two storyboard assignments for this semester.  One is from a verse from the song 'Cuddles McGish'.  The leica-version of this won't really make sense on its own, so I just uploaded the boards here.  Our group came up with a wonderfully whacky version of the story for this, haha!

Then our final storyboards were television boards.  The characters were from one of our character design assignments earlier this semester, which we used to create a TV episode.  I tried out doing digital boards for this one.  Here's the whole process:

Here are two coloured versions of the boards (one truck, one pan) that were done for painting class.

Our final character design assignment of the semester.  We got to use a character that we designed earlier in second year, and I went with my walk character from first semester. Tried to push the poses, as usual.  Did not have as much trouble drawing this guy as I used to before.  Pose five was tricky though.

Layout!  Here's quite a few of the things we did for layout class this semester.  Some things are rougher than others, so I'll just post the stuff I'm happier with.

And, finally, I painted that final pan from the layout assignment for painting class as well.

I'll just say that it is really (really!) nice to have been able to sleep properly again this week!  Alright, lots of stuff coming up this summer, so I'm sure there will be more updates (zoo trips!!!)

The Peacock Speaks Too!

Sorry for not posting much lately.  I'm planning on doing some changes with the blog (URL change, perhaps), so I'm trying to avoid writing too many posts until then.  This, however, is an animation, and since it's basically just a link, it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

So yeah, animation.  This took a looong time.  Many revisions all the way through and quite a few were movements left out.  Alas, I still think the characters move around too much.  Too many poses: especially with Pixar being here at school this week and talking about subtle acting...  Well, at least I'm happy with it from an animation point of view.  But I'm definitely going to focus on less movement and more subtlety.

And no, it's still not finished ;)

The Badger Speaks!

This animation is incomplete...  But yes, I'm planning on finishing it still.  This animation is for our muzzle-sync assignment.  I choose an audio-clip (from Night at the Museum) that had two characters speaking, because I wanted my muzzle and beak characters to interact.

Yes, I'm animating my beak for this too!  His poses are (ultra) roughly blocked in, just as a reference for the eye-level of the badger.  The background is also very... unresolved :P  But anyway, here's the animation for now.  Most of the badger stuff is done, but some of it is still rough.  Have a looksy:

Sketchbook Stories, 11

It's been forever since I've done a sketchbook post, so here's another one of those.  It's rather large too, because I have a whole bunch of random images from the past 2.5 months or so.   I've been obsessed with Milt Kahl hands lately, so I've studied  and drawn a whole bunch of those.  Besides that, there's a lot of layout studies here too.  All of those are Western related, so lots of horses, cowboys and stuff like that.

Another thing; I'm starting to put a little 'water-mark' stamp thing on my images from now on.  Maybe even a full-out water-mark at some point, but I'll try this for now.  Recently people have been telling me to do this, and recent talks at school have lead me to this.  It's basically just to claim that the work is mine, in case it gets posted somewhere else without me knowing about it.  Hopefully it doesn't look silly.

Alright, huge sketchbook dump:

Medieval People

I haven't posted anything in a while, so... I'm going to post something!

A big character design project this time.  The characters all had to be designed to come from a specific time period.  I choose medieval-Russia, which I really enjoyed.  I went through sooo much paper for this, it's insane!  Appealing female characters are really hard to do!  Besides that, I think the comic relief gave me the most trouble.  That and the villain's beard.

I'm not 100% happy with how the clean-up turned out.  The roughs were better: hopefully I can get the two on the same level someday.
