And Second Year Begins!

So, I haven't updated for a super long time!  It's mainly because of the crazy amount of work that we've been assigned in our second year of animation already.  It's all amazing to do though, so it's definitely worth it.  Anyway, this is one of those posts that contain a lot of different things.  I've got the feeling more of those will be happening this year, as I might not be updating as frequently.  I'll definitely try though.

Okay, first off... Life drawing!  Not too much here yet: I'll save the actual newsprint life drawings for a soon-to-come post, but here are some sketchbook drawings that I did with a brush-pen.  People keep telling me to upload some, so here goes:

Next up is the first character design assignment.  I studied quite a bit of Ratatouille concept work for this (I love that movie!), and it definitely helped me a lot.  I did a whole bunch of short quick sketches before finalizing the design, which was a lot of fun to do.  Gotta give a little thank you to Ricardo for critiquing my action poses and helping me make them stronger.

Our first animation assignment of this year was the wave, boat and floursack cycle.  Doing the wave in 3/4 quarter view was challenging, as a lot of thought needed to go in where every frame of the wave, boat, sack and splash should be in perspective.  I'm not overly fond of the water detail, but I no time to change it.  Oh well; I'm happy with the outcome.

Here are a whole bunch of drawings from our last two zoo trips.  I scanned them on two different scanners, so the colours are a little bit different here and there.  Oh well :)  Free coconut water was handed out at the zoo two weeks ago.  That was when I found out that I don't really like coconut water.

And finally some sketchbook pages from this week!

  1. Goodness! That’s a lot of stuff. Maybe you could spread them out a bit next time. In a blog a day. But that’s up to you. Oh and I missed you and your posts but I understand how crazy class can get. Wait till you get to 3thd year. Yikes! You will be lucky to get any sleep.

From what I see here, they’re really great and um animated. LOL you can definitely see/feel the moment. :D

Oh and what a fun rat character you have. His shape looks like a seven. A nice flexible number shape. But yeah that’s a great choice from all the earlier doodles you did of him.
As for our neighbour hood rats, well, they’re not so fun. But then my kitty could take care of them. I have actually seen them on our bird feeder and well stealing food from my caged birds. >:(

Still have to check out that clip though. Just that there’s so much to look at.

Oh 2 weekends ago I was at the Toronto zoo on a little trip with my dad. Monday and Tuesday we were there. He asked me if I wanted to go on a trip and gave me a few choices, like Niagara falls, Midland and est. Well I chose “est“. So we went and I got a few photos out of it which is always nice. Best ones were of the tapir, some butterflies and the African penguins with their cage mates. If you’re wondering why I didn’t do any sketching, well because basically when you’re on a zoo trip with my dad is an equivalent to an express train. Basically its express viewing. Maybe there is some group or club that join in the future so that I can enjoy the zoo at my own pace? Going to have to find out.
But anyways hay, I wonder if you might have seen me? You couldn’t miss me. I was the weirdo with the silky and shiny leopard print shirt on under the jean jacket and wearing the glasses. I know some of the animals couldn’t keep their eyes off of me. Like the big male antelope. Now that guy was stunning.

Oh yeah can’t wait till they get the giant panda! But its too bad. I’ll probably miss it.
Also have you heard that the mayor of TO wants to sell the zoo to the Zoological society? Cause they don’t want to pay the taxes on it or something.
Anyways I hope it all works out.

    Sorry for the long post.
But then you have this long posting too so we’re even. ;)

    1. Oh my goodness, yes a long comment indeed, haha!

Thanks so much for the lovely comments! I don't think I would have seen you in the zoo, since we only go on Saturdays. I can't wait for the panda either! Plus, the fact that Eurasia will open up again, and hopefully all the other animals there will be visible again.
