Magical Zoos and Speedy Drives, 7

And speedy drives they were!  Not too much traffic on the way back, for once.  But that's probably because we left early yesterday, since I had to go to a BBQ.  This of course meant less drawing time.  Also, my family came to the zoo for a surprise visit, meaning a little more time was spent chatting and hanging out instead of drawing.  Not that it matters: it was fun!  Here are literally all the drawings I did yesterday.  I only did some cutting and pasting to make it fit together a bit better, but other than that, this is it for summer zoo trip number seven.

EDIT - Oh, right, and my parents bought us all ice cream :)

Life Drawing... A Little Bit More ;)

Here's more life drawing from over the summer: just a huge compilation in no particular order.  You can see the time on most of these.  If you see a weird looking squigle thing, it's most likely a 30 second drawing, because those poses go so fast that I usually end up putting a scratch down instead of two numbers :)

Life drawing is enjoyable.  I'm getting the hang of form more and more (I hope), and I'm actually starting to draw hands (which is also getting really fun)!  Besides that I don't have that much to say for this post of destiny.  We're already halfway through July!  Wowzee!  Just one month and a bit left until...

Magical Zoos and Speedy Drives, 6

We went to the zoo yesterday.  Surprise!

Drawing animals started really slow for me this time.  Maybe it was the weather, or perhaps it was the fact that a lot of animals were trying to hide.  Oh well.  I didn't get as many drawings as I usually do, but I did get some studies done.  Usually I don't have enough patience to do studies, but yesterday I pushed myself to draw BIG on the page, allowing for more minor details in the drawing as opposed to gesture alone.

On a side-note: I saw The Amazing Spider-Man with my roommate last Tuesday, and it was absolutely awesome (or amazing :P)!  Great soundtrack too!

Painting on Location

This was the first time for me to actually paint something on location.  I went to Highpark in Toronto with a group of friends (Jean, Andy, Katarina, Jeeyoon, Lisa and Chu) and simply... painted.  I choose to work with gouache for this painting, which proved itself to be a bit of a challenge, as we were sitting on a hill: paint rolling to one side of the pallet, sitting on an angle, etc.  Nonetheless, it was fun to do and hopefully I'll do it again sometime (soon?)  I defintely altered the composition for this painting a bit.  Altogether it probably took roughly three to four hours, I believe: kept it nice and rough :)

Magical Sketchbooks and Speedy Stories, 5 / 9

That's right people: two posts in one, because the need to update both of these was, well... high.  Sooo, I've been gone for a while to the U.S., meaning I couldn't go to the zoo that Saturday.  But fear not: I went again yesterday :)  All the animals were sooo happy to see me again!  ...Maybe?  Whatever the case, I hope you like this week's bunch.  Once again with a little colour!

Now, as I mentioned, I also put sketchbook pages in this post, so here you have it!

Ah yeah.  Hands.  I'm just trying to do lots of hand studies this summer, since I need to improve on those, as always.  These are pretty much all referenced.  Mainly Hogarth hands, since they're so cewl!  After having drawn a hand, I'll draw it again in short-form, because that's kind of helpful :)
