A lot of people have been asking me what the name of my portfolio character is. Alright. I officially named him Timmy. This post is basically a gigantic lengthy picture that describes how I developed his character. Hopefully it's an interesting read :) Oh, and I apologize in advance for the darker spots on some of the scans; I had several problems with coffee spills earlier :| I rarely even drink coffee. Go figure.

The Tale of the Mey-Me Monster
You may have been wondering what this whole "Mey-Me Monster" thing is all about. If that is the case, keep reading, because I'll explain how the whole thing started.
This little monster is a result of my lack of proper communication skills from way back, when I was just a wee li'l boy:
This little monster is a result of my lack of proper communication skills from way back, when I was just a wee li'l boy:
Back in Holland we lived on a dairy farm. Every six weeks or so, some guy would come over to take samples of each of our cows' milk. This guy was the so-called monster nemer (pronounced "mon-stehr naim-ehr"). Now, he would call to set up an appointment with my dad. That's where I come in. I was always hungry to know who could be calling us, so often I was the first to arrive at the phone. I would pick up the phone, say my little speech "Hallo met Pierre van der Weerd" (try translating that) and wait for a reply. While the monster nemer would properly tell me who he was and that he needed to talk to my dad, I didn't seem to understand his grown-up talks of boring.
Of course, I was completely fascinated with dinosaurs and other amazing monsters at the time, so instead of telling my dad that the monster nemer wanted to talk to him, I instead yelled out that the Mey-Me Monster was on the phone.
There. Now you know.
I drew the little beastie in my sketchbook and then coloured it digitally in Photoshop (all with a mouse!!).
